Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday underlined his government’s determination to press ahead with a successful and permanent exit from the economic crisis, as well as a successful conclusion and ratification of the Prespes Agreement in the Greek Parliament.
“I have no doubt that the government retains the majority in parliament in all instances or that the Prespes Agreement will be backed by the necessary parliamentary majority,” stated Alternate Foreign Minister George Katrougalos to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency radio station “Praktoreio 104.9FM” on Wednesday.
The decision to assume the Foreign Ministry himself marks his “determination to do whatever possible to guarantee the successful completion of the historic Prespes Agreement,” Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said following the resignation of Nikos Kotzias as foreign minister.
Minister for Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information Nikos Pappas in an interview with ‘Documento’ newspaper on Sunday underlined the government’s priority not to cut pensions.
High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini described the Prespes Agreement as a “ unique opportunity for reconciliation in South East Europe,” praising Tsipras and Zaev’s “political courage.”
“The Greek government remains committed to the Prespes Agreement.
Greece strives for good neighbour relations and friendship, while supporting FYROM’s prospects of joining NATO, on condition that its northern neighbour fulfills all necessary obligations on its own part, President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos said on Wednesday, in a message directed to Skopje.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday repeated that the only path leading to NATO entry for FYROM passed via the implementation of the Prespes agreement signed with Greece to resolve the name dispute.
The Prespes agreement is ‘alive’, said government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakoulos on Friday speaking to radio 24/7. He said that the Greek government is monitoring the developments and supports FYROM Prime Minister Zoran Zaev’s initiative adding that both sides are determined to give the battle for this agreement to come into effect.
The Prespes Agreement between Greece and FYROM over the name issue is beneficial for all, for Greece, for FYROM and for Europe, German Ambassador to Greece Jens Ploetner told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the unification of Germany.
