Hellas Journal has learned that since this morning the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic is on full alert. According to diplomatic sources, Turkish authorities have undertaken a widespread disinformation campaign – including planted sources and false videos – to major news outlets in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and France aiming to harm Greece.

This disinformation campaign has been orchestrated by the Turkish Secret Services (MIT).

The plan, according to reliable sources, consists of the presentation (publication) of another supposed “forensic” analysis that tries to substantiate the already made allegation that Greek authorities shot and killed a refugee-migrant in Evros on March 4.  On a daily basis, Turkish authorities and Turkish President Erdogan claim that there are multiple such cases, without having provided evidence of a single case.

  • The allegations, leveled by Turkey on March 4th, were immediately and unequivocally denied by the Greek government spokesman Stelios Petsas.

A few hours ago, after the Greek authorities confirmed that Turkish services are once again seeking to place, within the next couple of days, a new wave of false reports simultaneously in major news outlets in the U.S., U.K., Germany and France.

As part of the Foreign Ministry’s state of high alert, the Greek Embassies in Washington D.C., London, Berlin and Paris were notified and the Ambassadors were urgently instructed to immediately inform their appropriate interlocutors about Turkey’s intentions and activities.

Having gambled and lost on a strategy of extracting concessions from the European Union by provoking a crisis on the border with Greece, Turkey has engaged in hybrid warfare over the last ten days.

  • As part of that hybrid strategy, Turkey has been wooing major media outlets trying to sell its narrative. Turkey’s goal is to present Greece as a country that does not respect human rights and perhaps to create a crisis of conscience in Europe.

Turkey may be seeking to shift the story from its own culpability in creating refugees, the fact that it has used force to prevent further refugees from Idlib – where Turkey is engaged in war – from coming into Turkey, or from the fact that it has weaponized migrants and refugees as part of an organized assault on Europe’s borders.
