Passenger traffic in Greek airports up the first five months: Alexandroupoli airport the biggest growth

Passenger traffic in Greek airports grew 5.6 pct in the first five months of the year compared with the same period in 2018 totaling 17,061,502 passengers from 16,157,272 last year, Civil Aviation Authority said in a report on Wednesday.

  • The Authority said that the total number of flights in Greek airports totaled 153,960 in the January-May period, of which 73,638 were domestic and 80,322 international, for an increase of 6.2 pct compared with the corresponding period last year.

In the five-month period, the Alexandroupoli airport recorded the biggest percentage growth rate (32 pct), followed by the airports of Kastellorizo (28.5 pct) and Araxos (26.6 pct).

  • In May, passenger traffic totaled 6,351,675 for an increase of 1.2 pct compared with May 2018.

The number of flights in Greek airports totaled 51,923, an increase of 2.5 pct. The airports of Athens, Heraclion, Thessaloniki, Rhodes and Corfu recorded the biggest passenger traffic in the month.
