Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, in a symbolic gesture with real practical value to mark World Environment Day, on Tuesday convened a meeting of ministers and local authority officials that culminated in the announcement of a new Metropolitan Park in the Athens district of Goudi.

The meeting was attended by State Minister Alekos Flambouraris, Interior Minister Panos Skourletis, Alternate Environment Minister Sokratis Famellos, Athens Mayor George Kaminis and representatives of local authorities.
The prime minister urged them to jointly embark on a common effort to set in motion the project to create the park, which has been pending for decades, calling on them initiate the necessary legal procedures “in order for the Metropolitan Park of Goudi to become a reality and be delivered to the neighbouring municipalities and the public.”

Tsipras also set the timetable: “Over the next three months, we can complete the preliminary work for drafting the legislation and table the draft bill in parliament for voting and immediately afterwards proceed with the necessary initiatives for legally supporting and implementing a long-standing vision for the citizens and civil movements”.
