A man’s body was recovered 21 nautical miles south of the island of Gavdos by a vessel sailing near waters where a migrant boat sank earlier on Wednesday. Another 97 persons on board the sunken vessel were rescued by a different passing ship.

According to the Coast Guard, the body will be taken to the port of Kali Limenes.

A search and rescue operation was continuing on Wednesday afternoon to locate more possible missing persons. Two Coast Guard vessels, four ships sailing nearby and a Greek Navy helicopter were taking part in the operation.
