An operation to free 60 citizens from Beirut airport in Lebanon was successfully carried out on Thursday, the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) announced on Friday.
It also said that the Greek Armed Forces, in cooperation and coordination with the competent state agencies, contributed to the effort for the safe return of 38 citizens of the Republic of Cyprus to Cyprus and 22 of the Hellenic Republic to Greece.
The entire operation was watched in real time at the National Operations Centre by Defence Minister Nikos Dendias with the chief of HNDGS General Dimitrios Houpis.
The operation was completed with the participation of an Air Force transport aircraft with the corresponding staff, as well as staff of the Special Warfare Command.
