PM Mitsotakis to address UN General Assembly and receive Global Citizen Award in New York

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis traveled to the United States to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the summit, Mitsotakis will meet with state leaders, diaspora groups, and investors. Among them will be Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Sabah, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Panamanian President José Raúl Molino, Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

On Sunday, September 22, he will participate in a summit focused on the future of the UN. On Thursday, September 26, Mitsotakis will address the General Assembly, concentrating on global geopolitical and technological challenges. He will also discuss Greece’s upcoming role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council starting in January 2025.

On September 23, Mitsotakis will be one of four individuals honored with the 2024 Global Citizen Award, presented by the prominent think tank Atlantic Council. He will deliver a brief speech upon receiving the award, which will be presented by Pfizer Chairman and CEO Dr. Albert Bourla.According to the Atlantic Council, the award recognizes Mitsotakis for his “ remarkable career in public administration and the private sector, as well as his leadership in governing the country and in transatlantic, European and global affairs.”

On Tuesday, September 24, Mitsotakis will address a community event in Astoria, organized by major Greek-American organizations, where he will honor prominent diaspora members.

On Wednesday, September 25, Mitsotakis will hold a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides.

On Thursday, September 26, he will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the organization’s headquarters. This meeting will occur amidst efforts by Guterres and his envoy, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, to restart negotiations between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides in Cyprus.
