Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed ongoing flood protection and water management projects in Thessaly during an event at the Kileler Town Hall, focusing on the region’s reconstruction efforts. Mitsotakis discussed the dam projects currently underway, marking one year since the devastating floods caused by the “Daniel” storm.

Mitsotakis emphasized the need for “more dams,” stating, “These can be for irrigation and hydroelectric power, and in a time when we need more dams to manage the electricity grid, these projects are of enormous significance.”

He stressed the importance of these initiatives and urged attendees to view the meeting as a commitment to accountability from the political system towards Thessaly, adding that it is “our obligation to ensure that such a large-scale disaster like that caused by Daniel never happens again.”

Mitsotakis also highlighted the critical need to fortify Thessaly against future challenges, ensuring the region does not face similar problems again. He further addressed the issue of water management, emphasizing the necessity of projects that will prevent the waste of water resources. “We do not have the right to waste water. It is a resource that is being lost, especially in a time when we know we will have less water, and we must protect it,” Mitsotakis remarked.
