Ministers outline dev’t projects in northern Greece, at event for new erga.gov.gr platform

Some 6,000 projects and interventions totaling over 77 billion euros are uploaded on the digital platform erga.gov.gr that was presented in Thessaloniki on Tuesday morning, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who also addressed the event.

Open to the public, the platform lists progress and funding information for projects by Greek region, regional unit, and city related to the upgrading of networks and infrastructure, support of the primary sector and the green transition, and the improvement of quality of life for all residents.

Members of the cabinet attending the presentation spoke about their respective ministries’ projects for northern Greece.

Deputy Interior Minister responsible for Macedonia-Thrace Kostas Gioulekas said at the event “National strategy for regional development; presentation of the erga.gov.gr online platform” that the prime minister’s goal was to raise the status of Macedonia and Thrace, as northern Greece borders four countries and has a unique geopolitical location.

Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Athanasios Kontogeorgis said the platform “will incoporate and signal a new model of regional and local planning, in order for us to achieve cohesion, convergence, and competitiveness faster.” He added that he platform will also allow Greek citizens to feel they know and participate in a common narrative, building trust on all sides.

Alternate National Economy & Finance Minister Nikos Papathanassis spoke on the drop in unemployment and the rise of new businesses in Central Macedonia, while Infrastructure & Transport Minister Christos Staikouras focused on the Thessaloniki Metro – that the prime minister said is expected to go into operation on November 30 – and the flyover. The Metro’s expansion toward the southern suburb of Kalamaria will be completed in the second half of 2025, Staikouras added.

Also speaking on projects in the region were Environment & Energy Minister Theodoros Skylakakis, Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, and Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.
