PM Mitsotakis after recent fire in Attica: We strive to improve each year, despite increasingly difficult conditions

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis chaired a meeting at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection on Tuesday afternoon to address the recent fire in Attica and discuss state-supported restoration efforts for the affected areas.
“ We strive to improve every year, although the conditions unfortunately keep becoming more challenging,” Mitsotakis emphasized during the meeting, according to reports.
Mitsotakis expressed his satisfaction with the significant effort made by Civil Protection forces. He highlighted the improved coordination among relevant agencies and services, noting that this represents an achievement for the functioning of the state and its structures. He added, “ We will not allow the significant progress made this year in Civil Protection to be dismantled.”
According to the same reports, Mitsotakis stated, “ We have full confidence in those handling the operational activities of the aerial means.”
He stressed that the allocation of aerial resources is now managed by experts with specific operational criteria in mind.
During the inter-ministerial meeting, an assessment was made of the extent of the damage with less than 10% of the burned area being forested land.
Regarding buildings, the initial assessment indicates that fewer than 100 have been damaged with most not being residential properties.
Additionally, there was extensive discussion on the restoration of the affected area, focusing on state aid for the victims, support and reinforcement of municipalities and compensation for plant and animal capital, which will begin immediately.
The meeting was attended by ministers, local government officials and representatives from the forces involved in coordinating and extinguishing the fire.
