Fire raging in Central Evia continues to spread. It started in Pissonas village and quickly moved towards Afrati, burning through pine forests and agricultural land along its path.

Firefighters, using both ground and aerial resources, attempted to contain the fire on the mountain. However, strong winds intensified the blaze and threatened to surround the firefighting vehicles.

An evacuation order has been issued for Afrati village, towards which fire is rapidly advancing. Firefighting forces are working to protect the village’s homes and residential areas.

Firefighting forces have been reinforced to combat the wildfire raging in the rural forest area of Pissonas in the Municipality of Dirfys-Messapia, Evia. Reinforcements are arriving from Central Greece, Attica and Thessaly. According to Fire Department, the fire broke out around 1:47 PM in Pissonas village and is moving south. Very strong northerly winds, with gusts up to 7 Beaufort, are creating new fire fronts.

To extinguish the fire, 120 firefighters are operating with 5 ground teams, 40 vehicles, 11 aircraft, and 6 helicopters. Water tankers and machinery from Local Government Organizations are providing support, while police forces have also been deployed.
Coordination of all civil protection forces is being managed from the mobile operational center “ Olympus”.

Additionally, two messages have been issued via 112. Specifically, at 2:55 PM, a warning message was sent via 112 urging residents to remain on alert and at 4:02 PM a message was sent for evacuation from the settlement of Afrati towards Vasiliko.: “ If you are in the Afrati area of Evia, evacuate towards Vasiliko. Follow the authorities’ instructions,” second warning message states.
