National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias on Wednesday paid a visit to the Salamina naval station and the frigate “PSARA”, which is taking over from the frigate “HYDRA” in the EU operation ASPIDES in the Red Sea. He was accompanied by Hellenic National Defence General Staff Chief, General Dimitrios Houpis and the Chief of the Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras.
Dendias stated that the frigate “will provide an escort to the world’s largest merchant fleet, in defence of the national and European interests, underlining Greece’s extended role in international security and stability.”
“I wished the captain and crew success in their duties and a safe return. May the patron saint of the Navy, Agios Nikolaos (St. Nicholas), always be [with them],” Dendias posted on X.
