Three migrants died after their boat sank off the island of Lesvos on Tuesday morning.
A total of 19 migrants have been rescued so far in the area of Thermi in eastern Lesvos.
Coast Guard vessels and a helicopter are operating in the area, while searches for any survivors are also being carried out from the shore.
Nine to 19 migrants still missing.
The weather conditions in the area are very difficult with frost and fierce winds blowing. Five of the rescued migrants were taken to the hospital with symptoms of hypothermia.
