Archbishop Damianos announces succession at Saint Catherine’s Monastery on Mount Sinai
The decision to initiate the succession at the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinaiwas announced by Archbishop Damianos in a letter released on Thursday.
As stated in the letter, he has informed the Greek government, and he has already discussed the issue with the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Church of Greece.
“The Holy Sinai Brotherhood agrees on the strategic objectives and methods for addressing the existential crisis facing the monastery to which I have devoted my entire life. The time has come for me to assume my responsibilities and guarantee the succession procedures, which are starting immediately and must be completed quickly but correctly so that the Holy Sinai Brotherhood can focus on solving the major problem it faces,” the letter states.
Archbishop Damianos concludes in the letter that the procedural details will be finalised within the next few days, will be announced as soon as they are agreed upon by all, and will be implemented with the assistance of the Egyptian authorities, the Greek government, and the Church of Greece.
