Very high risk of fire in ten Greek regions on Saturday

A very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is forecast in five Greek regions on Saturday, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr).

Very high fire risk is predicted on Thursday for the following areas:

⦁ Region of Attica

⦁ Region of the Peloponnese (regional units of Corinth and Argolida)

⦁ Region of Western Greece (Regional Units of Achaea, Aetolia-Acarnania)

⦁ Region of Central Greece (regional units of Phthiotis, Fokida, Viotia, Evia including Skyros island)

⦁ Region of Thessaly (regional Unit of Sporades)

⦁ Region of Central Macedonia (Regional Unit of Halkidiki, including Mount Athos)

⦁ Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (regional units of Kavala, Thassos, Xanthi, Rhodope, Evros, including the island of Samothrace)

⦁ Region of North Aegean (regional units of Lesvos, Lemnos)

⦁ Region of South Aegean (regional units of Rhodes, Karpathos)

⦁ Region of Crete (regional units of Heraklion, Lasithi)

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection has informed the state services involved, as well as regional and local authorities in the above areas to be on heightened alert to deal promptly with any outbreak of fire. It has also warned the public to avoid any activities outdoors that may accidentally start a fire, such as bonfires, use of machinery that creates sparks, barbecues, handling beehives or throwing away lit cigarettes.
