PM Mitsotakis: We never deviated from our main objective, to make Greece stronger
The government will exhaust its second four-year term “under the same belief that Greece can become even better,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in his weekly social media review posted on Sunday.
“At the end of the path, the citizens are the ones that will judge us,” he added, on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of New Democracy’s rule begun on July 7, 2019.
“We faced unprecedent crises but did not deviate from our basic objective, to make Greece stronger, fairer, and more modern. We now have the lowest unemployment rate since 2008. Development greater than the eurozone average. Foreign investments are at a historic record level. The National Health Service is strengthened, justice is digitized, and public administration is changing,” the premier said in his post. “Pensions are given out faster, employees are protected by the digital work card, we support young people with a housing policy of 43 actions. Universities, schools, transportation, defense, civil protection – in all critical sectors we have made progress,” he added. “Have we done everything perfectly? Obviously not. A lot remains to be done and corrected,” he concluded.
Mitsotakis also referred to the now defunct OPEKEPE, the agency being investigated for its handling of EU farm subsidies. “I am the first in many times to recognize mistakes, delays, and failures in management, assuming the political responsibility because we did not correct ills in a timely manner, as in OPEKEPE’s case. We are not hiding in full view. A greater effort is needed to instil a new mentality of responsibility and observing the law, away from clientelistic mentalities and policies that firmly belong to the past. You may be sure we are making this effort and will keep doing it,” the premier said.
