Wildfire breaks out in an area of forest in Ritsona, Evia

A wildfire broke out in a forested region in Ritsona, on the island of Evia, on Monday afternoon.

According to the fire department, it does not pose any threat to inhabited areas but spread quickly due to strong winds blowing in the region.

A strong firefighting force was sent to put out the flames, from the fire brigades of Halkida and Evia, as well as reinforcements from Viotia and Fthiotida and water-carriers supplied by Halkida and neighbouring municipal authorities.

In total, there are 100 fire fighters, including seven teams of EMODE forest ‘commandos’, 27 fire engines, five aircraft and four helicopters, of which one is for coordination, working to put out the flames.
