PM Mitsotakis receives Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday welcomed Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who is visiting Athens to mark the 150th anniversary of the Church of Aghios Nikolaos that has been gifted to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, at the Maximos Mansion.
“I bring you the wishes and blessings of the Mother Church, the greetings of the Hierarchs from Phanar. It is a special joy to be back in Greece, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the church you gave us and which we now have in the centre of Athens and on this occasion to again see your beloved face, your colleagues, to exchange thoughts on common issues and to return to our seat strengthened,” Patriarch Bartholomew said during his meeting with the prime minister.
On his part, Mitsotakis welcomed him and stated:
“Your Holiness, it is your visit that always gives us strength and courage to continue on the difficult path of the overall restoration of our country. I want to welcome you again to the Maximos Mansion, interpreting, I believe, the feelings of all Greeks towards you, but also towards the very important work you are doing.”
He also added: “You are here for a very pleasant moment which you have mentioned, but also every visit is an opportunity for us to discuss the broader developments, which also concern our own region. Issues on which I know that you have an opinion and the courage of your convictions, something that I consider is appreciated overall.”
