The last meeting of the Greek prime minister with the Egyptian president took place in Cairo in January 2025 on the sidelines of the trilateral summit of Greece-Cyprus-Egypt.
Mitsotakis visited Cairo in March 2024 as part of a joint visit with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and European leaders for the signing of the EU-Egypt Strategic and Partnership Agreement. Greece took the lead in concluding this agreement, advocating for the strategic importance of Egypt’s stability for Europe, as well as Cairo’s importance in containing migratory flows to European countries.
In March 2024, a joint Declaration co-signed by Mitsotakis and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi reflected their decision to establish the High-Level Cooperation Council of the two countries.
