FM Gerapetritis meets with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs DiCarlo

Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis met on Wednesday with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo.

DiCarlo visited Greece in the context of her tour to Nicosia, Athens and Ankara for the preparation of the imminent informal broader meeting in the context of the efforts for restarting talks on the resolution of the Cyprus issue.
As diplomatic sources pointed out, the meeting took place in the wake of the unanimous renewal by the UN Security Council of the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), for which Greece made diligent efforts, as an elected member of the Security Council.

Gerapetritis underlined that the resolution of the Cyprus issue is the Greek foreign policy’s top priority, the same sources said. He also reiterated Greece’s position in favour of a solution based on a bizonal, bi-communal federation according to UN Security Council resolutions.
DiCarlo, on his part, said that the general secretary is committed to the Cyprus issue and seeks tangible results, the same sources said. He thanked Greece for the constructive role it plays within the UN Security Council and informed Gerapetritis on the preparations for the upcoming informal five-party meeting.
