PM Mitsotakis: Government will cover repairs to Ambelokipi building where bomb went off

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday unveiled the framework of state aid to support owners and tenants who lived in the apartment building on Arkadias Street in Ampelokipi, which suffered serious damage from the explosion of a bomb within one of the apartments.

The prime minister said that the Greek government, having secured a private donation from GEK TERNA, will cover the full restoration of the apartment building – in which there are 44 properties, including nine commercial premises. At the same time, the residents will be compensated for any household goods that were destroyed.

During the 9-12 months that the repair work on the apartment building is expected to last, apartment owners will have the option of choosing between receiving a housing allowance so they can find a house to rent or relocating to the defence ministry summer camps in Agios Andreas, Attica. In the case of tenants, they will be able to stay in the Agios Andreas houses until the end of March 2025, while they look for a new home.
