Explosion in the apartment in Ampelokipi caused by the detonation of an explosive device

The police’s investigation into the powerful explosion that occurred on Thursday in an apartment in Ampelokipi, as a result of which a man lost his life and a woman was seriously injured, while extensive damage was caused to the apartment, as well as to adjacent apartments is in full progress.

According to police, the explosion is due to the detonation of an explosive device, while so far two pistols, cartridges, mobile phones and digital evidence have been found and seized.
Police sources said that the man who died seems to have been working on an explosive device containing a large amount of explosive material in the living room of the apartment. Due to the size of the explosion, no remains of the device have yet been found, but investigations continue to determine the type of explosive material it contained.
Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou said to ANT1 TV on Friday that police has identified the woman that was seriously injured by the explosion in the apartment and is being treated in the Evangelismos hospital. The woman is not in condition to speak, but she is known to the authorities as she has been arrested in the past.
On the contrary, it is still not possible to identify the man, since, as Dimoglidou noted, “the man was dismembered by the explosion and the identification must be done with DNA.”
