President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp as part of her trip to Poland for the 19th Informal Meeting of Heads of State of the Arraiolos Group.

After a tour and laying wreaths at the Death Wall and the Victims Memorial, President Sakellaropoulou stated, “ Words are not enough to describe the horror of the Holocaust, the systematic extermination by the Nazi regime of millions of Jews, including thousands of Greeks, as well as many other fellow human beings. An incomprehensible barbarity that has left an indelible mark not only on European civilization but on the history of all humanity.” “ At a time when peace, democracy, and human rights are being tested on so many fronts, it remains our duty to continue the fight to ensure that such heinous crimes are never repeated,” she added.
