More than 7,000 hectares burnt in Xylokastro wildfire

Over 7,000 hectares have been burned by the recent wildfire in the Corinth area, according to data released up until Thursday by the EU’s Copernicus/Emergency Management Service – Mapping.

Specifically as recorded by Copernicus, on Wednesday the number of hectares burnt by the fire that broke out in Rozena Xylokastro on Sunday amounted to 7140.2.

As stated in a post by the Athens National Observatory/meteo.gr weather service, this year’s fire in Corinth was the largest to affect the regional unit between 2010 and the present day. In addition, according to meteo.gr, from 2010 until this year, large fires in the area have burned more than 18,000 hectares in total, which corresponds to approximately 8% of the total area of the regional unit of Corinth.
