A 32-year-old Ukrainian woman, who was residing in Germany, was found dead on Wednesday after a rockfall in  Samaria gorge, Crete.

The severe weather and rain affecting the Chania region since early morning reportedly caused a rockslide, one of which fatally injured the young woman. She was part of a group of visitors traversing the gorge.
Firefighters arrived at the lower entrance of the gorge and recovered the woman, who was found unresponsive.

According to the Deputy Regional Governor for Civil Protection in Crete George Tsapakis, 300 tourists were trapped in the gorge. Volunteer teams and Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK) personnel promptly reached them. Most will be transported to the town of Sfakia, while some will remain in the village of Samaria within the gorge. All are reported to be in good health, with no issues or injuries.
