Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the introduction of an additional financial incentive aimed at attracting and retaining doctors in underserved or remote areas. In a social media post, Mitsotakis stated that the new allowance, depending on the category of the region where the doctor is stationed, will start at 200 euros and may reach up to 600 euros per month for certain specialties.

Mitsotakis emphasized that the core measures of his government’s policy will be unveiled at the Thessaloniki International Fair, reiterating that supporting the National Health System (ESY) remains a top priority for his administration.
In his post, Mitsotakis stated:

“In two days, I will speak at the Thessaloniki International Fair, where I will have the opportunity to present specific measures and policies that we will implement in the coming period. However, today I want to highlight something very important: the necessary support for doctors within the National Health System.

With a Joint Ministerial Decision signed on Thursday, we are introducing an additional financial incentive to attract and retain doctors in underserved or remote areas. This new allowance, depending on the region, will start at 200 euros and can reach up to 600 euros per month for certain specialties.

I have said many times-and I will continue to say-that supporting ESY is our top priority. We face long-standing challenges, but we will not stop striving for a better ESY, worthy of all citizens’ expectations.”
