Some are trying to discredit the national health system, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said during a press conference on Wednesday.
“For purely political purposes there is an attempt, mainly by trade unionists of the left and our political opponents, to persuade that the national health system is inefficient,” Georgiadis emphasized.
He also stated that there may be some problems as the system serves 80,000 people every day – 25 million visitors a year.
Criticism must be in good faith and based on real data, he stressed and added: “We cannot constantly prove the obvious. Propaganda is false. Both the prime minister and the minitry staff are worried about public health and the national health system.”
Georgiadis also referred in detail to the program for free afternoon surgeries for citizens who cannot afford to pay for surgery.
“The program concerns 37,000 citizens who have been waiting over four months to be operated,” Georgiadis explained, adding that “we have already received the green light and this measure will be implemented. The final decision of the EU on the resources of the Recovery Fund is awaited. The 51 million euros required have already been approved.”
According to him, this decision is expected by the end of the year at the latest.
