Three light quakes shake the south of Crete




A third tremor of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter scale shook the southern coast of Crete on Wednesday. Earlier, two earthquakes of magnitude 4.1 and 4.8 on the Richter scale were recorded at 11:30 and 11:32, respectively. Their epicentre was in the sea, south of Kali Limenes in the municipality of Phaestos, on the island of Crete.

According to the Athens National Observatory’s Geodynamic Institute, the quakes’ epicentre was located 11km southeast of Kali Limenes and their focal depth was two kilometres.
The third quake’s epicentre was located 22 km southeast of Kali Limenes, having a focal depth of 5 kilometres.
Due to the small focal depth, the tremors were felt over a large part of the southern coast of Crete, while no damage has been reported so far.
