Heavy rainfall and lightning affected some parts of Greece on Monday, with more rain and thunderstorms expected on Tuesday, particularly in Macedonia, Thrace, and possibly Thessaly.

According to the meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens data from its automated meteorological station network, the greatest rainfall occurred in the islands of Paxi, south of Corfu, reaching 45 mm, as recorded by 19:00 on Monday. This was followed by Narthaki (Larissa, Central Greece) with 19 mm, the same as Loutra Smokovou near Karditsa, also in Thessaly.

Weather phenomena are expected to be intense on Tuesday (August 20) as well in the same regions, with high frequency of lightning locally.

According to the EMY emergency weather report, the regions least affected by rain and thunderstorms are the Cycladic and Dodecanese islands, Crete, and the Attica Region.

More details on the development of the weather in the regular and extraordinary weather bulletins, on the EMY website (www.emy.gr). Forecasts will be updated every twelve hours.

Wind velocity will register up to 5 on the Beaufort scale, and it is expected to be humid on Tuesday.
