SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Stefanos Kasselakis called for the dismissal of the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vasilis Kikilias, on Tuesday, following the devastating wildfire in Attica.

Kasselakis visited the Cultural and Sports Center of Nea Makri, where the “Grassroots Solidarity-Solidarity Everywhere” initiative was supporting those affected by the large wildfire in northeastern Attica. According to a related announcement, Kasselakis was briefed in Nea Makri by Marathon Mayor Stergios Tsirkas on the extensive efforts by volunteers and residents to save homes and property. He then visited Patima in Halandri, where a worker lost her life after being trapped inside a factory by the fire.

“Political responsibility is determined by the outcomes of political actions and decisions. A fire crossing 40 kilometers of already scorched Attica and literally entering Athens is something that belongs in Kabul, not in a European country. Not in a European capital, not in Athens,” Kasselakis stated, adding that “the immediate dismissal of Mr. Kikilias by the Prime Minister is necessary. It is the least that can be done right now. It is the obvious step. As for the remaining accountability that must be taken by the entire government, and primarily by the Prime Minister, I will address it in the coming days.”
