President of the Cyprus Republic Nikos Christodoulides is visiting Athens to attend an event organized by the University of Athens on Wednesday evening commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

According to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), President Christodoulides laid a wreath earlier in the day at the Monument of the Fallen in Cyprus located at the “Alsos Stratou” (Army Park) in Goudi. The ceremony was attended by the chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis. The ceremony included the laying of the wreath and the playing of the National Anthem.

On Wednesday afternoon, the president of Cyprus was scheduled to inaugurate a photo and multimedia exhibition on Famagusta by journalist Sotiris Danezis at the “Melina Mercouri” Cultural Center in Thissio.

The University of Athens event is scheduled to take place at 19:00, at the University’s campus.
