The interventions of the government aim at the immediate improvement of the daily life of the citizens and concern important reforms that correct long-standing problems which hinder the way forward, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Tuesday during a cabinet meeting.

Mitsotakis emphasized that the cabinet meeting sends the message that the work continues even in the heart of summer.

Regarding high prices, he stated: “We have several encouraging news, better inflation figures and lower prices in supermarkets compared to last year. These are some first positive indications that the framework of the measures we have put in place for several years months it starts to pay off.”

He added that “today the relevant provision for the emergency intervention in the electricity market is being voted in the Parliament in order to send a clear message that whenever there are distortions, which are attributed to the improper operation of the market, the government is ready to intervene for the benefit of consumers.”

The Greek premier stressed that the government remains vigilant to ensure the orderly operation of the electricity market.

He also referred to a series of important reforms concerning the Ministry of Education and especially its digital transformation.

He spoke about substantial changes that strengthen legal certainty, prevent long-term processes and overall strengthen citizens’ trust in institutions.

He also emphasized that it is one more link in a chain of actions in favor of transparency, a path that the EU recently recognized in spite of those who launched attacks against the government on rule of law issues.
