In a coordinated operation by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the Hellenic Police and the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) at 7:00 on Friday morning, authorities shut down an illegal operation hiring sunbeds and beach umbrellas on Agia Marina beach on the island of Rhodes.

The Real Estate Service of Dodecanese A’ proceeded to seal off the area where illegal structures, beach umbrellas, chairs and sunbeds were found, both on the beach and in the sea. In addition, entry into the area was forbidden with a sign, as well as the exercise of any economic activity in this area.

The entire process was completed in less than 48 hours, as the competent services had carried out an on-site inspection of the company at noon on Wednesday, in which it was found to have illegally occupied the beach and erected 19 illegal metallic structures in the sea. Subsequently, all legal procedures were followed, a report was drawn up with the corresponding conclusion, namely an order for immediate removal and an order to seal and shut down the business and all economic activity in the area that had been illegally occupied.

It was decided that the operation in question would be carried out very early in the morning so as not to discompose beachgoers and overall tourist activity in the area.

National Economy and Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis stated: “I’ve said it before and I emphasise it. Let everyone understand this without exception, especially those who think they will deceive us and that they can disregard the law: as we did last year, as we did today in Rhodes, so we will do from now on. Legality everywhere! And no chicanery is going to stop us. It is a fundamental prerequisite for making this country better”.
