An investigation by the Hellenic Police Counterterrorism Service was in full swing on Thursday, following an attack on a police patrol car stationed outside the home of the Supreme Court president in the Papagou district at 00:45, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to Athens-Macedonian News Agency sources, there were seven or eight individuals involved in the attack, who approached the police patrol car on foot and lobbed at least five petrol bombs, which exploded on impact with the vehicle.
In addition to the fragments of five glass bottles, the counterterrorism squad is also examining CCTV footage from cameras in the area to trace the movements of the culprits.
The police officer injured during the attack serves at the local Papagou police station, which has undertaken to guard the Supreme Court president’s house, and was not a member of the judge’s security detail. The officer was taken to the 401 General Military Hospital where he is being treated for burns to the face and hands but is not considered at risk.
