NATO is not only a military alliance, but an alliance of values and principles, National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias said on Friday in his statement on the sidelines of NATO Foreign Ministers meeting, stressing the importance of the observance of treaties and international law in interstate relations.

Dendias also had a short meeting with his Turkish counterpart Yasar Guler.

Specifically, Dendias stated:

“We have the NATO Ministerial meeting here in Brussels today, the preparation for the Washington Summit next month. We discussed, as always, the strengthening, the deepening of NATO. It is very important for Greece to always remind that NATO is not only a military alliance but an alliance of values and principles and in this context the most important is the observance of treaties, the observance of international law in interstate relations. I also had the opportunit to brief my colleagues on Greece’s efforts for the modernisation of the armed forces and I referred to the creation of the Hellenic Innovation Centre, the new effort to bring innovation to the Greek armed forces and I also had the opportunity to refer to the initiative of the Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis and the Polish Prime Minister Tusk for the creation of the air defence canopy over Europe. Also, on the sidelines of the Defence Ministers’ Summit, I had a short meeting with my Turkish counterpart.”
