Greece and Türkiye can “establish an approach of mutual understanding not as an exception, but as a productive normalcy that is not annulled by the well-known differences in our positions,” Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said after meeting in Ankara with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday.

* Greece-Turkiye High-Level Cooperation Council (HLCC) will take place in Ankara around the end of the year. It was also agreed that Greek-Turkish meetings be repeated, as agreed at Vilnius, on the basis of three axes: political dialogue, positive agenda, and Confidence Building Measures.

* Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis will meet with the personal envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Cyprus, María Angela Holguín Cuéllar, at 10:30 am on Tuesday.

* The United States remains steadfastly committed to the Prespes Agreement and the incorporation of North Macedonia in the Euro-Atlantic institutions, a US Department of State spokesperson said in the wake of elections at the Balkan country.

* The United States encourages the maintenance of calmness in the Aegean and the resolution of disputes in accordance with International Law, the State Department noted after the conclusion of the meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.

* Greece needs a better life now, and “we need to claim a better Europe with less austerity and (with) a solution for the migration issue,” SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Stefanos Kasselakis said during a tour of Larissa.

* Greek National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias met at the ministry with visiting Minister for European Union Affairs of Sweden Jessika Roswall on Monday. According to a social media post on his personal account, Dendias said they discussed Greek-Swedish collaboration in the framework of the European Union and NATO, developments in Ukraine, and the Hellenic Center for Innovation Development being set up.

* The first meeting of the Regional Tourism Council was held under the chairmanship of Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni at the Union of Greek Regions, in the presence of regional governors and deputy regional governors on Monday. As Kefalogianni emphasized, the Regional Tourism Council represents a significant new tool that will assist in planning and shaping Greece’s tourism strategy.

* The relocation of the Mt. Parnas casino to Maroussi, a northeastern suburb of Athens, will be discussed anew on June 17, the Council of State decided.

* The European Commission on Monday described the failure of the new president of North Macedonia to mention the country’s constitutional name during a ceremony swearing her into office as a “very unfortunate event”, in response to a questions. He called on the country’s newly elected authorities to continue to convince the EU that “they are committed to the European future of their country”.

* Israeli forces pushed deep into the ruins of Gaza’s northern edge on Monday to recapture an area from Hamas fighters, while in the south tanks and troops pushed across a highway into Rafah, leaving Palestinian civilians scrambling to find safety.
