New Democracy (ND) will canvass door-to-door for a higher percentage of votes ahead of a runoff on June 25, party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in Agios Nikolaos on Tuesday.

Mitsotakis began a two-day tour of the eastern part of his home island of Crete. He toured Sitia, Ierapetra, and the “Takis Shelter” for 400 dogs and other animals founded by Takis Proestakis and discussed the new animal protection laws his government passed during its first term.

The same evening he will address the public at Iraklio, the main city of the island, while on Wednesday he will tour areas of Rethymno, on Crete.

In his tours, the former prime minister has referred to the party’s policy of focusing on people’s real problems, while he is calling for stronger support and a larger majority that will allow him to form a stand-alone party in the second round of elections in June. (In the first round of elections on May 21, ND won 40.79% of the votes, with the main opposition receiving 20.07%.)
