Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Tuesday that the general elections will be held on May 21. Mitsotakis added that a second round of elections, if needed, will take place in early July at the latest.

Mitsotakis made the announcement in his opening remarks to a cabinet meeting, during which Interior Minister Makis Voridis and Alternate Finance Minister Theodoros Skylakakis are to present actions relating to public administration.

The prime minister referred to the work of his government, saying that 402 laws were passed during his term, covering the entire spectrum of public policy, such as strengthening the country’s defence capability, tax reductions, the increase in pensions as well as the minimum wage, which rose from 650 euros to 780 euros.

“And all this at a time when we faced successive crises,” Mitsotakis added.

“The country and the citizens need clear horizons and, despite the opposite scenarios, the elections will be held at the end of the four-year term as I had committed they would from the beginning,” he stressed.
