PM Mitsotakis meets with Crown Prince Akishino in Tokyo

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, accompanied by his wife Mareva Grabowski, met with Crown Prince Akishinoand Princess Akishino of Japan on Monday in Tokyo.

The challenge of climate change and the green transition dominated their meeting.

Mitsotakis had the opportunity to brief the royal couple on Greece’s initiatives in this area, especially the GR-eco Islands projects, which aims to transform small islands into models of a green economy, energy autonomy and digital innovation.

Earlier, Mitsotakis met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, Hiroyuki Hosoda.

The meeting focused on the desire to strengthen and expand bilateral relations in all sectors. Mitsotakis referred to the good performance of the Greek economy and the opportunities it offers for Japanese businesses.

They also discussed developments in Ukraine, international and regional issues and Japan’s cooperation with the Euro-Atlantic institutions.

The Greek premier underlined that revisionism and the changing of borders through the use of force cannot be tolerated. Referring to Turkish provocations, he reiterated Greece’s firm position that good neighbourly relations and International Law are the only basis for resolving differences between countries. Additionally, he conveyed an invitation from Greek Parliament President Konstantinos Tasoulas’ invitation to Hosoda to visit Greece.
