The Greek government is offering incentives to reduce electricity consumption through a scaled subsidy programme on electricity bills, Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas said on Tuesday.

In comments made to Mega TV, Skrekas said that the government has been subsidising all electricity bills horizontally since June, adding:

“We will continue to subsidise all bills and all monthly consumptions and all households with one difference: The lower the consumption, the greater subsidy. Even someone with high consumption, if they manage to reduce energy consumption by 15 pct, they will receive additional subsidy. This is feasible since authorities have comparable data with the previous year’s consumption.”
