UN Secretary General`s Special Envoy on the Cyprus problem Jane Holl Lute is continuing telephone consultations with all parties, diplomatic sources have told CNA, without ruling out the possibility of her returning to Cyprus.

Lute paid Cyprus a visit at the beginning of the week during which she had separate meetings with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar in the context of preparations of an informal five-party meeting under the aegis of Antonio Guterres for the resumption of Cyprus reunification talks.

“Jane Holl Lute`s consultations with all parties in preparation for the informal meeting will continue in the weeks ahead,” diplomatic sources told CNA.

According to the same sources “she is currently in new York and is expected to hold online or telephone consultations with parties,” adding that “she may return to Cyprus.”

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. The latest UN backed round of talks took place in 2017, n the Swiss resort of Crans Montana, but failed to yield any results.
