Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras on Thursday had a teleconference with the board of the Greek hunters’ confederation and the presidents of the hunting federations.

According to an announcement, Tsipras said that he responded to their request for a discussion as he believes that the government’s stance is not fair to the thousands of hunters and fishermen.

“Unfortunately, the management of this particular issue is another proof of the unscientific way the government is managing the pandemic in each sector. There is no ecosystemic evaluation, the gamekeepers are on furlough and there are serious issues concerning the environment and the balance of wild fauna,” he said.

On their part, the representatives of the hunters, according to a SYRIZA announcement, “thanked Tsipras for his “responsible and mature stance” while criticising the government for its indecision and calling it “an enemy of hunters” after it decided to open up the retail trade and other activities but continue the existing restrictions on hunting.
