Tsipras: Prime Minister Mitsotakis appears nonchalant about Europe, the pandemic and Turkey

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance party leader Alexis Tsipras on Friday said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ handling of Greece’s demands at the EU Summit was akin to a “nonchalant” attitude as opposed to defending national interests.
It is the very same nonchalant attitude Mitsotakis exhibits when it comes to the pandemic, Tsipras added on his critique after the end of a two-day EU Summit on Friday, which the party called a diplomatic defeat for Greece earlier on Friday. The Prime Minister “instead celebrates, stating that the EU took a step forward and that sanctions against Turkey, which the PM himself targeted, should not be regarded as an end in itself,” he stressed.
The government has so far failed across the board in all the recent major issues, Tsipras added, including managing the coronavirus pandemic, as Greece now stands above the European average of new deaths per population, he noted further. The same applies in matter of national economy, he said, as Greece now registers the highest recession in the EU over the last quarter.
Moreover, “the government is a victim of its own ideological obsessions and appears to be far removed from the citizens’ dramatic current predicament, and is leading the country to a course of a perpetual crisis, with rapid income reductions, rising unemployment, closed businesses and social inequalities.”
