Strict measures against spread of Covid-19 to apply at New Year also, ministers decide

The plan that will be followed during the coming days, in order to ensure strict adherence with Covid restrictions to control the pandemic over the New Year holiday, was examined in an online meeting of top cabinet ministers and government officials on Thursday.

According to a government announcement, the plan will be similar to that adopted at Christmas, especially during the hours around midnight that usher in the New Year when a curfew on all movement abroad will continue to apply.

The ministers said that police will be deployed and strict inspections will take place at every level to prevent the spread of coronavirus through crowding, with officers bringing in the New Year on patrol in the streets.

The meeting also examined reports that people had used various excuses to go on holiday to various destinations and decided to order particulary stringent controls at the entrances into the countries from abroad and any departures from protocols and restrictive measures.

Participants in the meeting included Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis, Minister of State Giorgos Gerapetritis, Deputy Citizen Protection Minister Lefteris Economou, Deputy Civil Protection and Crisis Management Minister Nikos Hardalias, Deputy Interior Minister Thodoros Livanios, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Akis Skertsos, Hellenic Police Chief Michalis Karamalakis, the head of the National Transparency Authority Angelos Binis and other officials.
