Greece-Egypt agreement on Exclusive Economic Zone posted on UN website

The agreement signed by Greece and Egypt for the delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone of the two countries was posted on the web page of the UN Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea on Thursday by the Legal Service of the UN Secretariat, according to a Greek foreign ministry announcement.

The agreement was signed by the foreign ministers of the two countries, Nikos Dendias and Sameh Shoukry, respectively, in Cairo on August 6, 2020.

Diplomatic sources, who stressed that everything was done in accordance with the Law of the Sea, said that the specific post is the first in four decades that relates to agreements between Greece and neighbouring countries regarding maritime zones. The agreement with Italy will follow as soon as it is put into effect.
