Five Greek seamen whose Greek-owned tanker was hijacked by pirates off Nigeria are in good health, according to information by the Shipping & Island Policy on Sunday.

Hijackers are holding three people hostage, the captain of the Togo-flagged ship “Stelios K” and two of the three Greek sailors.

The remaining crew led the ship to Lagos port, while negotiations are under way to free the three hostages, according to the ministry.

The National Union of Merchant Marine Sailors (PENEE) expressed the anxiety of relatives, who have not been able to communicate with their kin, and requested of the ministry that it notifies their families of the negotiations’ progress. It also asked the minister to introduce measures that better protect crews from such incidents.
