Syrian national arrested in Athens as suspected ISIS member

A 27-year-old Syrian national held on suspicision of being a jihadist and who has already confessed to participating in assassinations was arrested on Thursday by the Counter-terrorism squad at a refugee hosting facility in Eleonas, Attica.

The Greek Police announced that the suspect was arrested early Thursday and charged with participating in ISIS/DA’ESH, as well as for acts of terror and directly contributing to acts of serial homicide, carried out with others in cold blood.

The suspect entered Greece on March 28, 2018. Under examination he admitted the charges against him and will be led before an Athens prosecutor.

A search in the container at the hosting facility where he was staying, revealed digital evidence that will be sent to the forensics lab for examination.
