Greece confirms 453 new coronavirus cases, 13 deaths; Kozani on lockdown

The region of Kozani, northern Greece, will go under threat level 4, the highest of the new coronavirus-measures scales introduced recently, after a rise in active pandemic cases there, the Civil Protection General Secretariat said on Thursday.
The measures will go into effect at 06:00 on Friday through October 29, and include a general lockdown.
The use of a mask is obligatory everywhere – in public or private -, gathering in private and public spaces is banned, and residents of the Kozani region may not travel beyond the region’s borders.
Among others, all entertainment venues, archaeological sites, playgrounds and courts or property registry offices are shut down, as are all restaurants/food providers except for their delivery sections.
Schools may remain open under strict measures including wearing of masks, while college-level courses may only take place online.
Civil Protection Deputy Minister Nikos Hardalias said the area had over 220 active cases, with 554 of their traced contacts obliged to keep quarantine, and “dozens of small, controlled but risky and geographically dispersed smaller clusters in the entire area.”
453 new cases, 13 deaths
Greece confirmed 453 new novel coronavirus cases on Thursday, including 63 related to other confirmed cases and 27 cases identified at the country’s entry points, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said.
Confirmed infections since end of February, when the pandemic arrived in Greece, total 23,947, of which 3,434 are related to travel abroad and 9,698 to already confirmed cases.
A total of 82 patients are intubated. Their median age is 67 years, 93.9 pct has an underlying condition or is 70 years old or older, and 24 are women. Another 252 have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic.
EODY also confirmed another 13 deaths, bringing fatalities to 482 in Greece. Of the total, their median age was 79 years and 96.3 pct had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years or older, while 181 were women.
