The German government is continuing its efforts to mediate between Greece and Turkey, with the aim of getting the two sides to begin direct talks, foreign ministry spokesperson Christopher Burger said on Monday.

“The federal government has for many weeks now been in contact with both Greece and Turkey, always with the aim of making direct talks on the issues raised in the Eastern Mediterranean possible, and these efforts are continuing,” stated Burger, while clarifying that he can’t at present announce specific dates for talks with German officials.

Burger did not comment on a new search and rescue plan that Turkey presented on Saturday, stating that he knows about it only from the media.
