The Greek Navy vessel “IKARIA” will depart from Salamina on Friday, September 11, to Lebanon carrying food, medicine, medical supplies and construction materials.

The decision for the second shipment of humanitarian aid to the Lebanese people was taken by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and assigned for its implementation to the Foreign Ministry and in particular, by order of Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, to the Directorate General of International Development, under the supervision of Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Costas Frangogiannis.

The aid will be delivered to the army, whose special units receive, coordinate and distribute humanitarian aid to the final recipient.
The programme for the implementation of this action was officially announced on Thursday at a press conference by Costas Frangogiannis, appealing to all businessmen and individuals to be activated immediately and to assist in this important project of Greece.

“Our country, responding to the request of the Lebanese authorities for assistance, has decided to stand in solidarity once again with the Lebanese people and to continue providing humanitarian assistance,” he said. He noted that the items to be sent respond to the request of the Lebanese authorities for help in the meetings he had when he visited Beirut, 18 hours after the devastating explosion in the port of the city, on August 4, accompanying the first mission Greek humanitarian aid.
